Sketchbook page

When people ask me what I like to draw when i'm not drawing for work I usually don't have an answer. I rarely draw for my own amusement anymore. Well, in an effort to change that here's a recent page from my sketchbook that has absolutely nothing to do with work. I have no idea what the sketch is about, it just kinda came to me.

Dexcon

I know, i'm a bad blogger. It's been far too long since i've posted any new art and you're not gonna get any this time. You do get a pic of Erica and Casey, they sat next to me at Dexcon last weekend. Don't they look soooo happy? Check out their websites: caseyhallen.com

Request

Because Chris Schoenthal requested it, here's Peyton Latham from Warlord. I did this painting fairly quickly, maybe 3 or 4 hours total time put in. At that time i'd work on 3 paintings simultaneously. That way while one painting was drying i'd have others to work on.

All tied up

More black & white art from True 20. I like the odd way these two contrast and compliment each other.

ROCK & RULE

Rock & Rule came out around the same time Heavy Metal did in the mid 80's , unfortunately it never developed the same cult following. Which is why I was so excited to see it out on dvd. I Just got the Collectors edition and it's amazing. It's got 2 versions of the movie and a bunch of extras. You have no idea how hard it's been to find a half-way watchable copy of this thing . Usually when it airs it's the edited version that's chopped out alot of the fun bits. Some of you might think it's a bit dated but this is really one of my all time favorite pieces of animation. Oh, and the soundtrack is completely badass. Cheap Trick, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Debbie Harry and Earth Wind and Fire....
Hey, don't look at me like that, if I say the're badass then the're badass.
Anyway, I did these just for fun. I wanted to see if I could get the look down. Track down a copy for yourself and see how I did.

It's been awhile...

Things have been busy. Eventually i'll be able to post some of the stuff i've been working on. This one is from True 20 from Green Ronin. I've got more black and white stuff to show but I think i'll ration them out over the next few days.

Is an explanation really necessary?

Mr. Grabski, why did you draw that sexy girl?
Because she was there.

El Laberinto del Fauno

I saw Pan's Labyrinth this weekend and it was amazing. Guillermo del Toro promised a fairy tale for adults and he did not dissapoint. It was dark and beautiful and horrible and sad.... but in a good way. If I have any complaint it's that i'd like to have seen more of the fantasy world. When I came home I did a few scribbles of the characters. I wouldn't be surprised if they start showing up in my sketchbook more often.

Older Stuff

Too bad I can't post some of the recent stuff i've been working on but untill it's published i've gotta keep it under wraps. Here are some pencil drawings I did a while back. They were for an RPG whose name I can't remember.

Warlord poster

I wish I had photoshop back when I painted this. It would have come out very different. Still, I think it kinda works, in a comicbook/team pose kinda way.
What would I have changed? Ah, but that would be telling....
